Security experts wrote a rootkit for Android

Security experts from Spiderlabs, Trustwave wrote a rootkit for the Android OS. The rootkit comes in form of a loadable kernel module, which can gain access to the data you don't want accessed.

The rootkit is published though DEF CON, named "This is not the droid you're looking for..." and the rootkit will be displayed live. DEF CON is one of the oldest continuous hacking conventions around, it also happens to be one of the largest. The authors on their rootkit:

"We have developed a kernel-level Android rootkit in the form of a loadable kernel module. As a proof of concept, it is able to send an attacker a reverse TCP over 3G/WIFI shell upon receiving an incoming call from a 'trigger number'. This ultimately results in full root access on the Android device."

DEF CON 18 will be held July 29 - August 1 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
